Bot Difficulty Levels and Playing Styles

Cricket Trainer offers 20 difficulty levels and 20 playing style settings to customize your practice opponent. The difficulty level controls throwing accuracy, while the playing style adjusts strategic behavior.

Skill Levels (1–20)

Understanding Skill Levels

The skill level controls how accurately the bot throws darts. Higher levels hit their target more often and produce more triples, resulting in higher Marks Per Round (MPR).

MPR (Marks Per Round) is the average number of marks scored per round (3 darts). A mark is any scoring hit on a target number.

Flight is a common skill classification used in darts, ranging from C (beginner) through B, A, and AA to AA+ (professional level).

Level Band Target MPR Flight
1 Beginner ~1.2 C
2 Beginner ~1.4 C
3 Easy ~1.6 C
4 Easy ~1.8 C
5 Easy ~2.0 C
6 Easy ~2.2 B
7 Medium ~2.4 B
8 Medium ~2.5 B
9 Medium ~2.7 B
10 Medium ~2.9 B
11 Medium ~3.0 A
12 Hard ~3.2 A
13 Hard ~3.4 A
14 Hard ~3.5 AA
15 Hard ~3.7 AA
16 Hard ~3.9 AA
17 Expert ~4.0 AA
18 Expert ~4.2 AA+
19 Expert ~4.4 AA+
20 Expert ~4.5+ AA+

Playing Styles (1–20)

Understanding Playing Styles

The playing style controls how the bot decides which number to target each turn. It does not affect throwing accuracy — it changes strategy and decision-making.

Lower settings create more defensive, scoring-focused opponents, while higher settings produce aggressive bots that prioritize closing numbers and denying points. The 20 settings provide granular control over the bot's strategic tendencies.

Range Style Behaviour
1–4 Very Passive Always focuses on scoring over opening numbers
5–8 Passive Generally prioritises scoring first
9–12 Normal Balanced between scoring and opening
13–16 Aggressive Prefers to close and deny opponent
17–20 Very Aggressive Always targets opening and closing numbers

Practice Tip

Enable Random Style to have the bot pick a different playing style each game. This creates unpredictable opponents and helps you practice adapting to different strategic approaches — great preparation for real match play.

Finding Your Level

Start by playing against a bot at a similar skill level to your current MPR, then gradually increase the difficulty as you improve. If you are unsure of your skill level, begin with level 7–8 (Medium) and adjust from there based on your win rate and performance.

For the most effective practice, aim to win 40–60% of games against your chosen bot level. If you are winning more than 70% of games, try a higher level. If you are winning less than 30%, drop down a level or two.
